Mara Baum AIA, LEED Fellow is HOK’s firmwide Healthcare Sustainable Design Leader. She oversees sustainability implementation across the healthcare market sector, which makes up about 30% of HOK’s work globally – her current projects include large hospitals in California, Indiana, Missouri, and Germany. A thought leader in the healthcare design field, her work focuses on the intersection between ecological considerations and the creation of a healthy and healing environment.

Mara is also active in the green building community. She currently sits on the USGBC LEED Implementation Advisory Committee and is on the faculty of Boston Architectural College's Sustainable Design Institute where she teaches “Green Building and Health” and “Sustainable Design of Healthcare Facilities.” She has authored and co-authored numerous white papers, including the “Advanced Energy Design Guide for Large Hospitals: Achieving 50% Energy Savings Toward a Net Zero Energy Building”, “Green Building Research Funding: An Assessment of Current Activity in the United States” and the USGBC’s “A National Green Building Research Agenda”.

A LEED Accredited Professional since 2001 and a LEED Fellow since 2013, Mara’s dozens of LEED and Green Guide for Healthcare projects cover tens of millions of square feet.
